In ThermoGIS the technical and economic geothermal potential for 'direct use' geothermal heat extraction can be viewed in the form of a large number of maps. Using DoubletCalc1D, the technical model first determines the technical feasibility of geothermal hot water production (flow rate and power) per 1x1 km grid cell. Then, using an economic model, the economic potential is calculated by comparing the calculated LCOE (levelized cost of energy) with the cost of geothermal energy used in the SDE++ subsidy scheme.
Two alternative scenarios are calculated to determine the effect of stimulation and addition of a heat pump on the potential.
