Calculation tab

The Calculation tab can be used to calculate flow rates, geothermal powers etc. at specific map locations, or with user defined aquifer properties.

The Calculation tab is available on the left hand side of the Mapviewer window. It only becomes active after a location is clicked on one of the aquifer maps (other than the Overview map), or a pair of coordinate values is entered in the Selection tab.

After selecting a location, the reservoir property values are shown (top depth, thickness, porosity, permeability, transmissivity, net-to-gross, mid aquifer temperature), and the results of the Base Case scenario at this location (flow rate, power, heat in place, potential recoverable heat and economic potential).

On the Calculation tab, the aquifer property values of the selected location can be copied from the 'Selected' column to the 'DoubletCalc1D' column by using the arrow button. These values can then manually be altered to see the influence of different aquifer property values. By clicking the 'Calculate' button new output values are calculated.

Warnings:

  • If a P90 or P10 probability is selected, the output values will not match the ThermoGIS values in the 'Selected' column. In the online calculation the transmissivity is calculated by multiplying thickness and permeability. In the P90 case this means multiplying the P90 thickness with the P90 permeability. The resulting transmissivity will not be equal to the P90 transmissivity. In the ThermoGIS calculation thickness and permeability uncertainties are taking into account to stochastically calculate the P90 transmissivity. As a result of these different methods, the output values will be different.
  • If the heat pump scenario is selected, the calculated power will not match the ThermoGIS power in the 'Selected' column. The heat pump option is not available in the online calculation. Therefore, the calculated power will be lower.
